About the buildings:

Campus Kjølnes student accommodation consists of eight houses and a technical building. There are 103 units:

  • 82 single units with private kitchen and bathroom
  • 14 single units with private kitchen and bathroom, as well as a loft room
  • One HC accessible couple's apartment.
  • Two couple apartments.
  • One couple apartment with a loft room.
  • Three family apartments.
  • There are HC accessible single units in each house.

Practical info about student housing at Campus Kjølnes:

Campus Kjølnes is right next to the University. Read more about Campus Porsgrunn and location at USN.

Campus Kjølnes has attractive outdoor areas. Feel free to use any outdoor furniture.

The parking lot closest to the student housing counts 22 SSN-marked parking spaces, where one is reserved for a car with HC-sertificate and two for EL-cars.

To park in the parking lot closest to Campus Kjølnes Student Housing, you need a toll card. You can get this at SSN's office on campus. Remember to return the toll card when you move out!

The remaining parking spaces belongs to Porsgrunn High School (PVS), and parking on these spaces could cause fines by PVS's rates.

Bicycle parking

There is bicycle parking in a private locked room. We encourage you to bring a private bicycle lock and lock your bike. 

The shared laundry room is located in the technical building, and use of the washing machine and tumble drier is free. The three- and two-bedroom apartments with lofts have private washing machines.

There is a separate building with storage rooms for each unit. 

Inside the shared laundry room you will find a swap shelf. Here you can leave things you no longer need, or find things you need for your dorm. It is not permitted to leave furniture or textiles.

Underground waste containers are placed in front of building no. 50. Remember to recycle!

District heating system

Electricity is included in the rent.

The building is attached to a district heating system that contributes to heating of water, ventilation heating and heating of radiators.

Think of the environment - save energy!

The student housing is built to be energy-efficient to retain heat during the cold season. There is no cooling installed on the property and in the summer months it can get hot inside if it is hot outside.

Efficient house

Electricity is included in the rent. 

The buildings satisfy the requirement for energy efficient houses and are attached to a district heating system. Heating and hot water come from the district heating system. The buildings have sedum roofs (green roofs) which help to reduce energy consumption by insulating in winter and cooling down in summer.


The student housing is built to be energy-efficient to retain heat during the cold season. There is no cooling installed on the property and in the summer months it can get hot inside if it is hot outside.

Fire alarm system

It is very important for your safety and the safety of others that you have familiarised yourself with the fire alarm system in your student residence. You can find information about the fire alarm system that applies to you on My page under Fire information. It is important that you read this and tick that the information has been read and understood.

Cable in router

Internet via cable


A router from SSN has been placed in your apartment. To use a wired connection, you must connect the device you wish to use through this.

We recommend that you use network cables of the standard cat5e or newer.

Priv-ssid: Private wireless network

Private WiFi

SSID and password for your personal wireless network can be found under the internet tab on My page.

WiFi: Eduroam

This is the same wireless network that you will find on campus (in addition to a number of other locations). To log in to eduroam, you must use your student account ([email protected] + password). You obtain your student account from the university at the start of studies. More information about student accounts can be found on the USN website.


Eduroam uses wpa-enterprise for authentication. This means you need both a username and password to log in. Many devices such as smart TV, Chromecast, Apple TV and gaming consoles do not support this and therefore cannot be used on Eduroam.

WiFi public areas

These wireless networks are also available in public areas (kitchen/lounge/hallway).

Physical key retrieved from the SSN campus office

You will receive a physical key, which you must pick up at SSN's campus office. The key is ready from 1 pm on the day your contract starts.



Subject to errors in inventory. In addition, some inventory may apply to common areas and not the individual unit.

All keys and key cards must be delivered by 10 am on the last day of the contract.

The housing unit must be ready for handover (emptied, cleared and cleaned).

You can either deliver the key in the service office or in one of our dropboxes.
