Find routes for six different hikes in Porsgrunn, both in the area around campus and outside.
During April, joint tours or activities will be set up on most campuses. Filter your campus in the Sørøst-calendar and find walks where you are, or other things to join!
In DNT's activity calendar you can find a number of organized tours and activities in the area.
Starting point: Campus.
Nice walk in the area where you pass all SSN's student housing.
An easily accessible, universally designed path where you walk along the Lilleelva, forest and football pitches. Starts at the University and goes to the housing complex Hovenga and back. The walkway is part of a bikeable circular trail. Along the path there is a rest area/activity area.
Porsgrunnselva divides the city Eastside and Westside. Feel free to park your car at the Down Town shopping center and stroll along the beautiful river promenade. The first thing you come to is the district "Bratsberg Brygge", which is a new and exciting residential area. Here, a wharf environment has been created with shops at pavement level and outdoor areas for the city's population along the canals, which are built towards Storgata.
You will then reach the district of Osebro, which is among the best-preserved parts of the center of Porsgrunn, and is also one of the city's oldest residential areas with a pleasant environment and historic buildings. Here there are many cozy places to "drop in" for a cup of coffee or something to eat along the river promenade.
A little further north is the Osebakken bathing area, a great rest area where bathing/sunbathing and barbecues are arranged, all this almost in the middle of the city.
This idyllic bathing spot, almost in the center of Porsgrunn, has a fine-grained sandy beach, lawns and jetty. A toilet has also been set up here.
Osebakken Vel has built a great sauna here, which was opened in June 2019. If you want to use it, you must book a place. Send an SMS with your name and desired time to 911 42 873 and you will receive an answer if it is available, as well as a code for the lock.
There are some simple rules for using the sauna:
1. Max 6-8 people.
2. 18 years of age limit if you are not accompanied by parents.
3. It is not allowed to bring food and drink with you into the sauna.
Take the trip up to the water tower and enjoy the view over the Campus.
From here you can continue on to Valleråsen on a forest path. Nice view of Porsgrunn and the fjord from the top at 197 m.
The hike from USN to Årdalsåsen offers the best views in the area.

This hike requires some planning and time, as you'll have to travel by bus, but it's well worth it! Take the M1 bus to Langesund and walk parts of the coastal path in Bamble.
